Photographic Memory

My Dad's Foot MMS.
I sent a text to my dad the other night, letting him know I got a new camera. He responded with a picture of his foot and asked, "When can I see it? Ellen says not tonight. Send me a picture of it."

This made me laugh in two ways.

Firstly, before I turned one years old, my dad got his first video camera. It was massive! It sat on his shoulder because it was too heavy to just hold. Not only was the camera heavy, but you also had to have a separate video recorder connected via cables! It was like carrying around a VCR with you.

The very first video he took with it was of me crawling towards him. He was sitting on the floor with this massive video camera and with the VCR sitting on the ground. He was encouraging me to crawl to him, then when I got to him, someone (mother or an older brother) would pick me up and set me down farther away so I could continue to crawl towards him.

What he didn't realize was his big toe was in the lower right hand corner of the video almost the entire time. When he replayed the video for the family to see, everyone laughed at his big toe and gave his videos the name "Big Toe Productions."

This is a treasured family memory.

So how did I respond?

I sent him a picture of my new camera by sitting on the ground with my big toe in the lower right hand corner.

My Foot
My Response.
The second reason why I laughed was of course my dad thought it would be perfectly reasonable to rush over to see the camera even though it was late on a work night and I hadn't invited him. My dad is a total night owl. And of course my mom had to tell him no. And of course my dad would have to tell me, just in case I told him, "no, come on over!" And then we could blame my mom for getting in the way. But of course, mom was right.

I love my family.

  7. So far my absolute favorite of yours is the Toms picture. I love the depth of field and contrasting colors. I really like Agua and Vacancy. Those blue skies are just amazing. The boy in the graveyard has such a sweet story.
